Ever wondered what it feels like to take the controls of an aircraft? A Discovery Flight at Illinois Aviation gives you the chance to experience the thrill of flying while getting an introduction to the basics of aviation firsthand.

What to Expect

Hands-on Flight: Take part in a 30–40 minute flight alongside a Illinois Aviation instructor.
Pre-Flight Training: Begin with 20 minutes of ground instruction and a pre-flight safety walk-through.
In the Pilot’s Seat: Get introduced to basic flight controls and experience what it’s like to sit up front as the pilot.
Scenic Views: Enjoy breathtaking perspectives of Illinois’s rolling fields.
Interactive Experience: Ask questions about training for FAA certifications and ratings as well as training for entry-level aviation careers.

*No prior flight experience is needed. Participants must be 14 years or older.

Weather & Maintenance: Flights may be rescheduled or canceled due to weather or required aircraft maintenance.

Aircraft Liability: Discovery Flights are conducted in Illinois Aviation aircraft under standard liability coverage. All participants must review and sign applicable waivers before their flight.

Discovery Flights are a standalone experience and do not result in FAA certification or employment. Students who wish to train for individual certificates and ratings may separately enroll on a per-certificate, per-rating basis.
